ATLAS: Automated Tissue and Lesions Analysis System

Research internship on automated segmentation pipelines for lesioned brain MRI.

Overview

During a six-week research internship (summer 2024) at the Medical Imaging Research Center (MIRC), KU Leuven, I worked on automated parcellation of lesioned brain images.

Context

  • Institution: Medical Imaging Research Center (MIRC), KU Leuven
  • Supervisors: Prof. Frederik Maes and Dr. Ahmed Radwan
  • Domain: Clinical MRI analysis and segmentation

Contribution

I contributed to the implementation and evaluation of segmentation pipelines for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data, with a focus on robust methodology development and testing on clinical imaging datasets.

Outcome

The work supports ongoing research outputs, including manuscript preparation with collaborators. It was accepted for an oral presentation at the ESMRMB 2026 Congress in Girona, Spain (30 Sept–3 Oct 2026).

Focus Areas

  • Medical image segmentation
  • MRI pipeline implementation and evaluation
  • Reproducible methodology for clinical imaging data
